This Season's Trends Make Cold Weather Look Hot
Cold weather giving you a bad case of the "blahs"? Forget about ugly
UGG boots and lumpy bubble jackets- counteract the drab and grey with
the flashy and colorful. The most popular accessories this season are a
culmination of all of the boldest, sexiest, most attention-grabbing
trends from the past decade:
1. Purple, mustard, fuschia and other deep colors
2. Leg warmers and thigh-high socks
3. Fur and shearling outerwear, bags, clutches, and boots
4. Ethnic-looking embellishments and accessories (wooden beads and exotic colors are so hot right now)
5. Animal prints like leopard, zebra, and python
6. Platorm pumps, booties, and thigh high boots
7. Leather handbags in classic (read: old school) designs with structure (not slouchy)
8. Sequins on jackets, dresses, bags, shoes, etc.
9. Velvet blazers, dresses, and skirts
10. Touches of lace in unexpected places- on shoes, on the backs of tops, blazers, and dresses, on bags, etc.
These trends can be found anywhere and everywhere right now, so
any "recessionistas" on a budget can definitely find these statement-making styles in their price range.
1. Purple, mustard, fuschia and other deep colors

Tom Binns x Disney Couture Jewelry Collection
As little girls, we loved to play dress up with plastic kid-jewelry,
imagining we were Cinderella, Pocahontas, Jasmine, Belle, or whichever
Disney princess' movie we just watched. Now, thanks to a collabo between
Tom Binns and Disney Couture, we'll get to rock jewelry that subtly
reminds us of those youthful days. I say "subtly" because these aren't
toys made out of plastic beads and charms shaped like Bambi - in fact, a
lot of Tom Binn's Alice in Wonderland pieces show Disney's dark side.
Here are my favorite picks, some from Tom Binn's edgy line and a few
other unique ones. All of them make great statement pieces and, at the
very least, awesome icebreakers.

The Cure for Dull, Dry Winter Complexions
Lots
of companies are coming out with products that promise to help get rid
of dark spots but they can take a huge chunk out of your wallet or take
weeks to see any results. The lightening ingredients in those products
can also be allergenic (i.e. soy proteins and extracts) or drying (i.e.
hydroquinone).
Me, I just rely on good ol' vitamin C, a natural skin brightener, which can be found in Vitamin C + Energy Cocktail Intensive Care
($22, Dermstore.com). apply just a few drops of this anti-aging serum to
your face and neck before bedtime and you'll wake up with a brighter,
glowing complexion! and at under twenty bucks, you can't beat the price
:)
Tip: At night, cleanse face, then apply serum and allow to sink in for a few minutes before applying your usual moisturizer.

Bad Hair Day? There's An App for That
Nothing gives you a bad hair day like humidity- remember the Friends
episode when Monica's hair poofed up in the tropical Barbados weather? Well, thankfully, the iPhone really does "solve
life's problems, one app at a time". Some genius has come up with the Haircaster App, which tells you how the weather is going to affect your hairdo. It's a lifesaver!
Now you can check the humidity, rain probability,
and wind velocity before stepping foot outside! Forget spending half an
hour styling your hair only to have it get ruined by the weather- this
baby will save you time and aggravation!
| Clearly she would have benefited from this app |
